Gillet, WI (July 27, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal motorcycle collision that took place on a highway in Gillet on the night of Wednesday, July 26.

According to Oconto County officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of Highway 22. Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man was driving in the area in a passenger vehicle when he suddenly passed a semi-truck. He was unable to get back over in time and struck a motorcycle head-on in the other lane. The motorcycle was also extensively damaged as a result of the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The motorcyclist, identified as a 40-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, though their condition is not yet known. Police said the 38-year-old male driver of the semi was not hurt.

The roadway was blocked for several hours in the area for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released, but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
