by | Jul 14, 2023 | Accident News |

Amery, WI (July 14, 2023) – Around 3:37 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 12, a man was killed in a fatal truck accident at an intersection in Amery.

According to Polk County officials, the accident happened at the intersection of US-8 and State Highway 46. Police confirmed that a man was driving his passenger vehicle in the area when he made a left turn at the intersection and was struck by a semi-truck headed west. The accident led to severe injuries and extensive damage to both vehicles.

Several Polk County responders, including Apple River Fire and Lakes Region EMS, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the passenger vehicle, who has since been identified as 28-year-old Joshua Nelson, was rushed to Regions Hospital by medical helicopter. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was tragically pronounced dead while there. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The roadway was blocked in all lanes at the intersection for some time. This led to extensive delays until the scene was fully cleared.

No further details have been released. Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of Joshua Nelson at this time.

Fatal Truck Accidents in Wisconsin

7/14 Amery, WI – Joshua Nelson Killed in Fatal Truck Accident at US-8 & State Hwy 46

Though truck accidents are not the most common type of collision on our roads, they tend to lead to some of the most catastrophic harm. This is due to the sheer size of trucks alone compared to passenger vehicles. In Wisconsin, it was reported that 73 people were killed in 2018 truck accidents due to the negligence of others. Though truck drivers are heralded as incredibly safe drivers, these accidents still occur every day due to the recklessness of others.
