Whiting, WI (May 17, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal workplace accident that took place on Sunday afternoon, May 14, in Whiting.

According to reports from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened in the afternoon hours at the Mativ Inc. Paper Mill about 65 miles from the Green Bay area. An adult male was working at the paper mill when he suddenly became stuck inside a paper machine due to reasons that are not entirely known.

Several responders, including Whiting paramedics and fire crews, were immediately called to the scene to assist. The male worker, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the accident.

The area was blocked off for some time following the accident. The company stated that it is fully cooperating with police after this incident.

No further details have been released, but police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
